Joel is the founder of the company. He encourages a style that is warm and relational, to help the client feel comforted and empowered as they deal with their issues. His areas of specialty are: children, teen groups, adults, cases including behavioral issues, anger management, crisis, trauma and addiction.
Joel taught Principles of Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology and Early Childhood Development at Southwestern Michiana College in 1999.
He worked for several years at Michiana Behavioral Health Center in Plymouth, Indiana, providing therapy for children, adolescents and adults in individual, family and group settings.
He also worked for Counseling Associates in Warsaw, Indiana prior to becoming the owner of his own counseling firm. Joel is married and has two young daughters.
Joel is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor, Certified in the Duluth Model of Minnesota to treat Domestic Violence and Certified in the Ontario Domestic Assault Risk Assessment.
Matt provides individual counseling to children, adolescents, and adults. He uses a comprehensive and well-rounded approach with a relational style.
Matt attended Ball State University (1991) and Indiana University Kokomo (1994) as an undergraduate and completed his graduate work in counseling at Grace College (1997). He became interested in helping others during college and has 15 years experience working in the mental health field in both Inpatient and Outpatient environments.
He worked nine years post-graduate at the Otis R. Bowen Center as a Case Manager, Intensive Outpatient Therapist and Outpatient Therapist. Over the past 5 years, Matt has been employed full-time at Tippecanoe Valley Schools as a Mental Health Therapist, where he provides counseling to students with emotional and behavioral needs and training to school staff in CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute).
Michelle has provided individual, family and group therapy to children, adolescents and adults for 19 years. She also provides couples counseling. Areas of expertise include trauma, substance abuse, anxiety, depression and disorders of childhood. Her approach is collaborative, person centered and strength based. Michelle utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques based upon the unique needs of each individual, such as, Trauma Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
Michelle completed her undergraduate degree in psychology and her graduate degree in 2003 at Indiana University South Bend. Her interest in helping others is long-standing and includes working with at risk children and families through Department of Child Services and juvenile detention, juvenile sex offenders, foster children, homeless, developmentally disabled and geriatric populations.
Michelle has been employed as a therapist at the former Madison Center and Dockside Services in South Bend for 15 years prior to joining McArthur Counseling Center.
Rhonda works under the supervision of Dr. Maharjan treating adult and child patients with a variety of psychiatric disorders ranging from ADHD to psychosis. Rhonda obtained her Masters Degree from Ball State University in 2009 and received credentialing from AANC in 2010.
Her impressive employment experience includes working with Pediatrics, Inpatient and Residential Psychiatric care and working with Alzheimer and Dementia clients.
Rhonda plans to continue her education with additional family mental health certifications and begin work on DNP.
Tina Jagger MSW, LCSW offers quality, comprehensive outpatient mental health and wellness services for individuals, couples, and families in a person-centered environment. She has a bachelor's degree and master's degree in social work from Indiana University and has experience in child abuse/neglect, community mental health, parenting/child development, aging and medical rehabilitation, and relationship issues.
Tina has over 25 years experience in working with diverse populations not only in social work, but also in retail, sales, and management. She utilizes cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and strengths-based therapy practices to address the mind, body, emotional, and spiritual connection that provides full healing and wellness. Sessions are focused on symptom identification and management, identifying and implementing coping skills, increasing interpersonal communication skills, and improving relationships with others.
Tina is married and has a elementary-aged son, and two adult stepchildren. She personally sees the struggles families deal with in divorce, remarriage, and blended families, and has a desire to assist those professionally who are in these very unique and stressful situations.
Nancy provides individual counseling to children, adolescents, and adults, as well as couples’ counseling. She uses a number of counseling techniques, depending on the individual needs of her clients. Nancy is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is especially effective in treating Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
Nancy attended Bethel College to earn her Bachelors Degree in Bible and Ministry, after which she sought and gained ordination with Indiana Ministries of the Church of God (Anderson) and served for 15 years as an associate pastor of family and children’s ministries. Nancy subsequently earned an MS in Counseling and Human Services at Indiana University. She is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
Nancy provides individual and family counseling to children, adolescents and adults. She utilizes play therapy techniques including art therapy along with cognitive-behavioral therapy and a strengths-based approach. She feels it is important to use evidence-based practices in order to see positive treatment outcomes. She has experience with forensic social work - especially child custody and co-parenting situations. Her therapeutic focus includes trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression and parenting difficulties. She believes clients are the experts in their own lives and the clinician partners with them to facilitate positive changes.
Nancy received her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Ball State University and her Master's Degree in Social Work from Indiana University, South Bend. She is a certified Parent Project Facilitator and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She was employed for 14 years at Four County Counseling Center where she counseled individuals and developed programming for both the juvenile court and Rochester Community Schools. She also supervised home-based case managers in various programs.
Prior to coming to McArthur Counseling Center, Nancy worked at Choices! Counseling Services as an outpatient therapist and clinical supervisor. She focused on individual treatment and interviewed clients for clinical assessments, family functioning assessments and child custody evaluations.
Nancy has been married to her husband Paul for 27 years and they have three grown children.
Erika provides counseling to children, adolescents and adults. She utilizes a cognitive-behavioral and strength-based approach to therapy to assist client with working through their presenting issues. She believes that the therapeutic relationship is very important to the counseling process and works together with the client to create and help them work towards their goals.
Erika received her Bachelor's degree in psychology from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2007. In 2014, she received her Master's degree in clinical mental health counseling from Grace College. Erika enjoys and has experience working with a variety of mental health related issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and self-harm.
Julie is a Clinical Psychologist with experience in private practice, community mental health and inpatient psychiatric facilities, as well as consultation in nursing homes and medical practices. She works with individuals, families and couples, and tends to use cognitive-behavioral treatment strategies, while including a systems approach to case conceptualization. She addresses a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, health and wellness, academic underachievement and stress related to issues such as relationships, work, finances, parenting, abuse, loss or illness. She is also experienced in psychological testing.
Julie graduated from Manchester College in 1987 and completed her masters and doctorate degrees at Forest Institute of Professional Psychology. She completed her internship at Park Center, Inc. in Fort Wayne, IN and has been licensed as a Clinical Psychologist since 1993. She is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA). Julie is married and has two teenage children.
Jonathan has been working in the mental health field since 2002. He completed his undergraduate degrees of Psychology and Sociology at Grace College (2001). Jonathan worked as a Mental Health Technician at Otis. R. Bowen Center Inpatient Unit from 2002-2008. He returned to Grace College and completed his graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling (2009). Jonathan has worked the past nine years at Otis R. Bowen Center (2009-2015) and Lifeline Youth and Family Services (2015-2019) providing individual, group, and family counseling. His area of therapeutic focus is children and adolescents working on emotion regulation and helping parents discover parenting strategies that work. Jonathan also has experience working with youth who are on the Autism Spectrum, focusing on improved social functioning. Jonathan's overall approach is very relational, client and solution focused. He also works with individuals, couples, and families on a range of issues; communication, anger management, trauma, anxiety, parenting, behavior modification, and depression.
