Nancy Helstern, MSW, LCSW

Nancy provides individual and family counseling to children, adolescents and adults. She utilizes play therapy techniques including art therapy along with cognitive-behavioral therapy and a strengths-based approach. She feels it is important to use evidence-based practices in order to see positive treatment outcomes. She has experience with forensic social work - especially child custody and co-parenting situations. Her therapeutic focus includes trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression and parenting difficulties. She believes clients are the experts in their own lives and the clinician partners with them to facilitate positive changes. Nancy received her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Ball State University and her Master's Degree in Social Work from Indiana University, South Bend. She is a certified Parent Project Facilitator and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She was employed for 14 years at Four County Counseling Center where she counseled individuals and developed programming for both the juvenile court and Rochester Community Schools. She also supervised home-based case managers in various programs. Prior to coming to McArthur Counseling Center, Nancy worked at Choices! Counseling Services as an outpatient therapist and clinical supervisor. She focused on individual treatment and interviewed clients for clinical assessments, family functioning assesssments and child custody evaluations. Nancy has been married to her husband Paul for 21 years and they have three grown children.
